From the Basset Hound Club of America...

PERSONALITY & PHYSICAL TRAITS OF THE BASSET HOUND

Calm, good-natured and affectionate. Gets along well with people and other dogs and pets. Good with children. Loves to be a lap dog. Not a good guard dog.
Definitely not a good guard dog.

Sensitive and stubborn nature. A Basset takes punishment and reprimands to heart. Can be stubborn and conveniently “hard of hearing.”
Just like his daddy!

A scent hound. The Basset was bred to trail game. His keen nose can lead him into dangerous situations such as the path of a speeding car or an unfenced swimming pool. The Basset is safest in a secure, enclosed area.
Uh Oh.

Relatively low activity level. Prone to obesity. Healthy, trim Bassets have good energy levels, but they are also content to snooze away the afternoon in a patch of warm sun. Although this laid back nature makes them desirable house pets, their weight must be kept in check. A daily walk with your Basset is recommended.
Just like his mommy! I guess we'll have to walk together.

Short legs may mean a needed boost! Many, but not all, sturdy, low-slung Basset Hounds may require assistance getting into a car. The unique, low-stationed Basset does not excel at jumping.
He's got a step stool to get up onto the bed. The big goof.

Long ears and droopy eyes need cleaning. Nails need trimming. The long ears of a Basset do not allow good circulation of air and are prone to infection. Owners should clean their dog’s ears once a week. The Basset’s droopy eyes should also be kept clean of debris and nails trimmed once or twice monthly
Oh Joy.

You ain't never caught a rabbit...

Ranger, the expert shedder, slobberer and moocher, now lives with us :) Jamieson and I are thrilled...Billy, not so much.

Now that stupid song is stuck in my head. I must have been singing it out loud, because Jamieson's at it now.

Dr. Doolittle

This morning when Jamieson and I were leaving the house, we had a bit of a chat with a crow that was perched on one of the trees next to the car. Jamieson was ahead of me as we were walking out the door, and he stopped so suddenly I nearly plowed him over. What stopped him was "hulllo" "hulllooo". He looked around and spotted the crow, who was giving us the once-over. Then, when Jamieson was looking at it, it said "hulllooo" again....and did some kind of clicking noise. (I swear to God it sounded just like "hullo").

I looked down at Jamieson who, for the first time in his life, was speechless. Mouth hanging open, eyes as round as loonies...hilarious.

Without taking his eyes off the crow, he said "hello, crow". And didn't the damn thing make the "hullo" noise right away! Jamieson was jumping, he was that excited. And what a helluva time getting him into the car!

All the way to daycare, he went on about the talking crow. I'm sure everyone got an earful of it there today...they'll be glad to see me coming to get him, I bet ;)

Born to Add, baby!

I'm posting these here because Jamieson knows how to get here on his own to see them. I'm a lazy mama.
